Healthy Gums
Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults, and has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, pregnancy complications, pneumonia, and even cancer. While gum disease is often asymptomatic in its earliest stages, unmanaged gum disease eventually causes pain, sensitivity, and irreversible bone and tissue recession that can affect your comfort, function, and even age your smile.
These are the reasons why our team is on a mission to treat and manage periodontal (gum) disease. We screen all patients for signs of gum disease at every routine visit to catch it in its earliest stages.
Some offices never track this, only do it once a year, only screen selected teeth, or ignore important inflammation signifiers like bleeding. To stay ahead of gum disease, pocket measurements, recession measurements, and bleeding sites should be recorded at every cleaning. At each visit, you should hear numbers and feel the hygienist measuring the levels of gum and bone around all of your teeth.
Have you ever had someone tell you that a little bleeding is "normal"? Healthy, stable gums don't hurt, and they don't bleed! If you've been told you have gum disease in the past, or you've noticed symptoms like bleeding, swelling, or sensitivity around your gums, please don't hesitate. Much of the damage to the bone and tissue from gum disease is irreversible, so it is critical to catch it as early as possible. We are a safe, judgement-free zone, and it's never too late to get back on track. Whether that means a routine cleaning and periodontal maintenance, or a therapeutic treatment plan for active gum disease (such as scaling and root planning), we'll explain what we're seeing, answer your questions, and help you understand the steps you can take to restore health and support optimal results for the long term.
Our hygienists are skilled, compassionate, and attentive, making sure every appointment is as comfortable as possible while delivering a thorough and personalized level of care.
