All dental conditions are progressive, and in their earliest stages, they are often imperceptible to patients. If not properly identified and managed in these early stages by a trained provider who is invested in your best care, they can lead more complicated situations with increasingly limited options. A small area of decay that could have been fixed with a sealant or filling can grow into a cavity that requires a root canal and crown. A cracked tooth that could have been saved with a crown can split unexpectedly, and require surgery to extract. Gum disease that could have been managed conservatively in its early stages progresses into irreversible bone loss around the teeth, bone that you can never get back.
