CEREC is used for crowns, inlays and onlays. CEREC restorations are used to restore decayed, weakened, broken or cracked teeth.

• CEREC metal-free crowns... The new metal-free crowns eliminate the ugly black line you may have seen next to the gum line on older crowns.

• Onlays are used whenever possible, are more conservative of tooth structure than full crowns. We do not have to remove nearly as much tooth structure! (or, in patient lingo "grind the tooth down" as we do for a crown.) Less removal of tooth structure means lower risk of a root canal, and more remaining natural tooth structure for today's longer life expectancies. (Studies have shown the more enamel that remains, the better the longevity of the tooth.) This approach has become very popular.

• CEREC restorations have the same "modulus of elasticity" as natural tooth structure. This means they more with the tooth during biting forces and extreme temperature changes that occur in the mouth. Silver fillings are too rigid, contributing to much of the cracking we see around old fillings. White resin fillings look better, but they are plastic and are too flexible when used in large restorations. Finally, we have an option that falls between a filling and a crown offering patients a conservative, strong, and beautiful choice!

• CEREC technology is revolutionary to dentistry because it creates a beautiful, esthetic, strong and durable ceramic restoration that is precisely bonded to the tooth. It is accomplished using a digital scan of the prepared tooth and creating the restoration's design using powerful 3D software that allows the dentist to customize the result. The design is wirelessly transmitted to a special milling device that will create your restoration using a dental ceramic. Because this is usually done in one visit you do not need to have a bulky, messy impression made of your tooth, you do not need to wear a temporary crown and you do not need to come back on a separate visit, often weeks away, to have your new crown placed. Dr. Holm and her caring team understand the importance of detecting oral cancer early. If caught early enough, this form of cancer is one of the most curable.

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain (IPS Empress) veneers offers the ultimate in esthetics. A veneer is a thin facing or covering that bonds to the natural tooth structure. A much more conservative alternative to crowns (caps) that can give you the smile you have always dreamed of and deserve.

Porcelain veneers are "top of the line" in cosmetic dentistry. If your teeth are chipped, broken, or discolored, or mis-shapened by repeated fillings and repair, porcelain veneers are a great way to change the color and shape of your teeth. Veneers can be a great alternative to braces for slight alignment or orthodontic problems and provide a beautiful smile in a short amount of time. The results are simply gorgeous

Bonding
Dental bonding can produce amazing improvements by fixing chips or filling spaces and gaps in your teeth. It too can correct minor misalignments. Bonding is covering a portion of the surface of teeth with durable plastic to either change the tooth's color or shape, or to rebuild broken teeth. Bonding is similar to veneers, but not as strong or long-lasting, and it is a low-cost way to improve your smile. Bonding is great for preserving tooth structure where only minor alterations are needed, for children who have chipped front teeth and for adults who need an alternative for veneers and understand the limitations and higher maintenance and replacement frequency.

Tooth Colored Fillings
Composite resins are tooth-colored restorations that are used in place of silver fillings on the chewing surfaces of back teeth. This approach has become very popular because silver (mercury) fillings are less attractive. These work well when the remaining tooth structure is plentiful, and not weakened by cracks or heavy wear.

 

Dentures & Partials
While we wish no one would ever need dentures, sometimes they are the most reasonable option. In the past wearing dentures was the only form of dentistry available to improve a person's smile. When they are indicated we take the time necessary to create attractive, well fitting dentures. They can't beat a set of your own teeth when they are healthy and straight, but when natural teeth can't be restored dentures look great and chew well.

If a person has lost too much of their jawbone to steady their dentures, implants can be placed. The dentures are attached to the implants to hold them firmly in place. If you have this problem, call us for a consultation appointment. If needed, we will coordinate your care with our area's best specialist, hand-picked by Dr. Holm in her 20 years of practicing dentistry. (Be wary of general dentists who claim to do everything but merely "dabble" in the area of implants and dentures.) The skills of an implant surgeon, such as a periodontist, or a specialist in advanced restoration, such as prosthodontist, are sometimes needed to ensure that you receive the best of care in this technically advanced, rapidly-changing area of dentistry.

Dental Implants
Implants are an increasingly popular alternative to dentures and bridges. They have many advantages, including their natural appearance, improved comfort and unequaled convenience. If you are considering implants, we can discuss the considerations and help you make the decision that is right for you. Dr. Holm has years of experience with restoring implants and coordinates the surgical placement of the implant with a team of local surgical specialist hand-picked over her 20 years of dental experience.

Our hygienists are both thorough and gentle and they are the best in the business! Dr. Holm has empowered them to fully utilize all their skills to offer you top-of the line prevention and early diagnosis that will keep you OUT of the dental chair in the future! For example, you would be amazed at the number of dental practices where gum disease is simply overlooked because the hygienists are forced to work under a high-volume schedule and not encouraged to codiagnose gum disease at its insidious early stages. Many adults are totally unaware that they too can benefit from sealants and fluoride instead of waiting for a cavity to appear- no one has ever told them! We are proud that we do not maintain our patients in a diseased state or wait for problems to surface. Root Canals
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure in which the diseased or damaged nerve of a tooth is removed so that the tooth can be saved or restored. Dr. Holm is in expert in diagnosis in this area, and refers all root-canal treatments to a hand-picked team of specialists to make sure you are getting the best level of care possible. Root canals are the only thing an endodontist does, and they generally provide the best rate of success in treatment. Dr. Holm feels that when it comes to saving your tooth, you deserve to be treated by an expert in this area.

Headaches, clenching, grinding teeth
Many people damage their teeth or give themselves headaches by grinding or clenching their teeth during their sleep. The vast majority of patients are totally unaware that they have this habit, until it is too late. Most of these patients will eventually suffer from teeth that become shortened, worn, cracked and chipped, resulting in a collapsed appearance, or what Dr. Holm likes to call "premature aging of the smile. Some people develop jaw joint (TMJ) pain. Investment in a simple, preventive solution can save you thousands of dollars of restorative treatment down the road! We offer custom-made, comfortable night-guard type splints to help with this. In addition to our standard splints, we offer NTI the only FDA approved splint for the treatment of Migraine headaches. (An important warning: Don't settle for over-the-counter guards, often intended for sports that fit improperly, are not designed to fit your bite and will cause even more irreversible problems.)

Infection Control
Our office is OSHA compliant, and follows the same OSHA sterilization recommendations for hospitals and clinics.
